When you get back, reset your brew station to your home defaults. If you changed your grind size on the road, dial it back. If you found a new ratio that worked, write it down. Keeping a simple log helps you repeat your successes and avoid repeating mistakes.
And if you're still struggling with aroma, it might be time to upgrade your gear. A good burr grinder is the single biggest upgrade you can make for consistent aroma. Also, look at your kettle: if it can't hold a steady temperature, your brews will be inconsistent.
