Ask yourself three questions:
- Do I have 5 minutes in the morning to make coffee?
- Am I willing to buy a $20 dripper and some filters?
- Do I like experimenting with taste?
If you answered yes to all three, pour-over is for you. If no, maybe stick with what you have.
When you're ready, here's a simple recipe:
- Use 15 grams of coffee for 250 ml of water (1:16 ratio).
- Heat water to about 200°F (just off boil).
- Rinse the filter, add coffee, then pour a small amount of water to bloom for 30 seconds.
- Continue pouring slowly in circles until you reach the total amount.
- Brew time should be around 3 to 4 minutes.
Taste cues: if it's bitter, grind coarser; if it's sour, grind finer. Adjust one thing at a time.
