Now, I'm not saying loud features are always bad. Sometimes they're genuinely useful. A one-way valve is a loud feature if it's advertised, but it's also a functional feature. And a best-by date might be the only date you see on a bag from a big commercial roaster—that's better than nothing, but it's a low bar.
For merch, though, the rules are different. If you're buying a mug or a t-shirt, a roast date doesn't matter. What matters is what you'll use daily. But if you're buying coffee, the date is the thing. Here's when loud is fine: when you're buying gear, not beans. A loud logo on a tumbler doesn't affect how your coffee tastes. A loud 'best by' date on a bag of beans does.
So, the next time you're in a store or scrolling online, remember: the roast date is the whisper that tells the truth. Everything else is just noise.
Disclaimer: Coffee freshness is subjective—roast dates are a guide, not a guarantee. Always store your beans properly and trust your taste buds.
