No matter which port your device has, a few habits will keep it charging reliably:
- Use the right charger: Don't grab a random fast charger that pushes too many watts. Stick with the charger that came with your device, or one with similar output. Overpowering can damage the battery.
- Keep the port clean: Dust and lint love to collect in there. Blow it out occasionally or use a soft brush. A dirty port means poor connection and slow charging.
- Don't charge right after a cold walk: If your device is freezing, give it a few minutes to warm up. Charging a cold battery can stress it.
- Pack a spare cable: Cables are the first thing to fail. Throw a backup in your bag. For micro-USB, that's even more important because they break easily.
These apply to everyone, from first-timers to road warriors.
