Not everything in a matcha kit is essential. Here's what you can skip without sacrificing quality:
- Bamboo scoop (chashaku): A regular teaspoon works fine. The scoop is just for tradition.
- Electric frother: It's faster, but it also over-aerates and can make a bitter cup. Hand whisking is more forgiving.
- Scale: If you're consistent with your spoon, you'll be close enough. Only buy a scale if you're chasing exactness.
- Sifter: You can skip daily sifting if you store your matcha airtight. Weekly is enough.
The point is to strip away the extra gear and keep the ritual simple. You'll enjoy it more, and your wallet will thank you.
