Here's a common debate: "But it's just water vapor, right?" Here's the thing — whether it's "harmless" isn't really the etiquette question. The etiquette question is whether other people want to be around it, and many people don't. It doesn't matter if you think it's fine; what matters is that you're in someone else's space (a restaurant, their table nearby) and they didn't sign up for it.
Outdoor patios are a gray area. If you're at a table with friends and no one nearby seems bothered, light use is usually fine. But keep clouds small, watch nearby tables, and if a family sits down next to you with kids, it might be time to take a break or step away.
