Want to know if a product is officially authorized by the FDA? Here's how to check.
The FDA's Authorized ENDS List
The FDA maintains a list of authorized ENDS (Electronic Nicotine Delivery System) products on its website. As of November 2026, only about 230 products have received marketing authorization through the PMTA process.
Important context about the FDA list:
- Most authorized products are tobacco or menthol flavored β no fruit, candy, or dessert flavors have been authorized
- No disposable vapes are authorized β every disposable on the market is technically unauthorized
- Major authorized brands: JUUL, Vuse (R.J. Reynolds), Logic, and a few smaller brands
- "FDA registered" β "FDA approved" β many brands claim to be "FDA registered" which just means they registered with the FDA, not that their products were reviewed or approved
How to Check
- Go to the FDA's website and search for "authorized ENDS products list"
- Look for the most recent "Marketing Granted Orders" list
- Search for the brand or product name
- Check the flavor and strength β even if a brand is on the list, only specific products (flavors/strengths) are authorized
β οΈ Important distinction: "Not FDA authorized" does not necessarily mean "unsafe" or "fake." Many well-established, reputable vape brands have pending PMTAs or are operating while the FDA works through the backlog. FDA authorization is the highest bar, but it's not the only measure of a legitimate product. Use it as one factor among many.
