What Is Ohm's Law and Why Does It Matter for Vaping?
Ohm's Law is the equation that governs your vape: Voltage = Current × Resistance (V = I × R). For regulated mod users, it's interesting but not essential. For mechanical mod users, it's the difference between a good vape and a trip to the ER.
For regulated mod users: Your mod does the math for you. Set the wattage, and the chip calculates the voltage and current. The safety features prevent you from drawing more current than the battery can handle. You don't need to know Ohm's Law. You just need to know that lower resistance = more power = more vapor = more juice consumption.
For mechanical mod users: You need to know Ohm's Law. A mechanical mod has no chip. No safety features. No protections. The battery delivers whatever voltage it has directly to the coil. If the coil resistance is too low, the battery draws more current than it's rated for. The battery overheats, vents, and explodes. This is not an exaggeration.
The calculation: Current = Voltage ÷ Resistance. A fully charged battery is 4.2V. A 0.15-ohm coil draws 28 amps. A Samsung 30T is rated for 35 amps. You're safe. A 0.08-ohm coil draws 52.5 amps. That same battery is now a bomb. Don't build below 0.12 ohms on a single battery mech mod.
If you don't understand everything in this article, do not use a mechanical mod. Regulated mods are safer, more convenient, and deliver a better vape 99% of the time. The only reason to use a mech mod is if you're a hobbyist who enjoys the ritual.
