Honesty framework: Vaping has not existed long enough to study children through adolescence. These gaps don't mean vaping is safe — they mean we can't yet measure the full scope of potential harm.
- Long-term human outcomes — E-cigarettes have been widely used for only ~10 years. Children exposed to prenatal vaping are still young. We won't know the full adolescent/adult outcomes for another decade. Evidence: INSUFFICIENT
- Dose-response relationship — We don't know the threshold of nicotine exposure that causes harm. Is one puff harmful? One device per day? The research hasn't established a safe lower bound. Evidence: INSUFFICIENT
- Flavor-specific effects — Different e-liquid flavors (menthol, fruit, dessert) contain different chemical compounds. We don't know which flavors are most harmful to fetal development. Evidence: INSUFFICIENT
- Device type differences — Pod systems, disposables, and mods deliver nicotine differently. We don't know if device type changes fetal risk profile. Evidence: INSUFFICIENT
- Postpartum effects — Nicotine passes through breast milk. The interaction between prenatal vaping exposure and postpartum nicotine exposure (through breastfeeding) is poorly understood. Evidence: INSUFFICIENT
