Don't wait until you're vaping pure burnt cotton. Here are the five universal signs that it's time for a new coil:
1Burnt or Harsh Taste
The most obvious sign. If your vape tastes like burnt paper, scorched cotton, or has an acrid harshness that wasn't there before, the coil's wicking material has degraded. No amount of cleaning will fix this — it's time to replace.
2Reduced Vapor Production
When vapor output drops noticeably, the coil's heating efficiency has declined. Gunk buildup on the wire or mesh prevents proper heat transfer to the e-liquid. If you're getting wispy clouds where you used to get thick ones, the coil is likely done.
3Gurgling Sounds
A gurgling or bubbling sound means e-liquid is flooding the coil chamber without being vaporized. This happens when the cotton has degraded and can no longer hold e-liquid properly. The coil is no longer wicking efficiently.
4Leaking from the Airflow
When a coil's cotton degrades, it loses its ability to contain e-liquid. Liquid passes straight through and leaks out the airflow. If you've checked your tank seals and pod fitment and leaking persists, a new coil usually solves it.
5Dark or Discolored E-Liquid
If your e-liquid turns brown or dark inside the tank, the coil is shedding gunk and carbonized material into the juice. This not only ruins flavor but can expose you to degraded compounds. Replace the coil and refill with fresh e-liquid.
