Steeping is the process of aging e-liquid to let the flavors blend and mature. Freshly mixed juice tastes sharp and chemically. Steeped juice tastes smooth and full. Here's how to do it right.
The slow method (1-2 weeks): Put the bottle in a cool, dark place. A drawer or a cupboard. Shake it once a day. Wait. Dessert and custard flavors need the full two weeks. Fruit flavors are ready in 3-5 days. Menthol and ice flavors need almost no steeping — they're good to go after 24 hours.
The fast method (2-4 hours): Fill a bowl with warm water (not hot — you'll degrade the nicotine). Put the sealed bottle in the water. Replace the water when it cools. The heat accelerates the blending process. This is the "speed steeping" method. It works about 80% as well as the slow method. Good enough for fruit flavors. Not recommended for custards.
What not to do: Don't leave the cap off. Don't put it in direct sunlight. Don't microwave it. Don't put it in the oven. These "methods" you read about online destroy the nicotine and the flavor.
Nic shots need steeping too. After adding a nic shot to a shortfill, shake it for 60 seconds and let it sit for 24 hours. The nicotine needs time to fully blend with the flavor. Skipping this step is why your first few puffs of a new shortfill taste harsh.
