If your vape makes you cough, you're probably inhaling wrong. The cigarette inhale and the vape inhale are different. Here's the technique.
MTL (pod system): Draw slowly and steadily into your mouth for 2-3 seconds. Don't pull hard — a slow, gentle draw pulls the right amount of vapor. Hold it in your mouth for half a second. Then inhale into your lungs. Exhale. The whole process takes about 5 seconds. This is the cigarette technique, and it works perfectly for pod systems.
DTL (sub-ohm): Inhale directly into your lungs, like breathing through a wide straw. The draw is loose and fast. You'll feel the vapor hit the back of your throat. Exhale immediately — don't hold it. The nicotine absorbs through the lungs, not the mouth. A 3-4 second inhale delivers the full dose.
The common mistake: Beginners hit a DTL device like a cigarette — tight draw, mouth first, then lungs. This produces weak vapor and makes you cough. The device needs airflow to cool the coil. A tight draw on a DTL device overheats the coil and produces harsh, hot vapor.
If you're coughing, reduce the wattage by 5W and open the airflow. The harshness is almost always from too much heat, not too much nicotine.
