There are always edge cases:
- Expired IDs – not valid. No sale.
- Out-of-state IDs – valid if they're government-issued and show age. You don't need to know every state's format.
- Passports – yes, they work.
- Digital IDs – some states issue mobile IDs. Pennsylvania has been moving toward that, but not all are accepted. Check your local rules.
- Medical exemptions – not for vape hardware. Age is age.
If you're ever in doubt, the safe move is to refuse. A lost sale beats a fine.
