Heat flux

Kanthal A1

Also: Kanthal

Common resistance wire for wattage mode. Default material on the WINDBAR coil wrapping calculator.

Nichrome 80

Also: N80

Lower resistivity than Kanthal, so the same wrap count usually reads fewer ohms and heats faster.

CDR

Also: continuous discharge

Continuous discharge rating of a battery cell, in amps. The WINDBAR Ohm's law and battery calculators compare amp draw to CDR.

Ohm (Ω)

Also: resistance, coil ohms

Unit of electrical resistance. Lower-ohm coils usually need more power and produce more vapor.

Wattage

Also: watts, power

Power delivered to the coil. Match wattage to the coil’s recommended range on the packaging.

MTL

Also: mouth to lung

Mouth-to-lung inhale style, closer to traditional smoking. Often uses higher-resistance coils and lower power.

DTL / DL

Also: direct to lung, DL

Direct-to-lung inhale. Typically lower-resistance coils, higher airflow, and higher wattage.

RDL

Restricted direct lung — a middle ground between MTL and open DL.

VG / PG

Also: vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol

Vegetable glycerin (thicker, more vapor) and propylene glycol (thinner, more throat hit / flavor carry). Ratios like 70/30 are common on open systems.

Nicotine strength

Also: mg/ml, nicotine %

Often listed as mg/ml (e.g. 20 mg/ml) or as a percent (2%). 10 mg/ml ≈ 1%. Adult products only — follow local law.

Pod

Replaceable cartridge that holds liquid and often the coil. Always match pods to the device family.

Coil / mesh

Heating element that vaporizes liquid. Mesh coils heat more evenly than older wire coils in many pods.

mAh

Also: battery capacity

Milliamp-hours — a rough battery capacity rating. Higher mAh usually means longer runtime at the same power.

Amp draw

Current pulled from the battery. High wattage and low resistance increase amp draw — stay within battery limits.

Regulated device

A device with a chip that controls power and usually includes protections (short, overheat, low battery).

Mech / rebuildable

Devices or atomizers where the user builds or installs coils. Requires Ohm’s law knowledge and battery safety.

Airflow

How much air mixes with vapor. Tighter airflow suits MTL; more open airflow suits DL.

Puff count

Marketing estimate of how many puffs a disposable or pod may last. Real use varies with puff length and power.

Authenticity code

Scratch-off or QR verification on packaging. Codes can be faked — also check print quality, seals, and seller reputation.

Leak

Liquid escaping from a pod or tank. Often caused by temperature changes, overfilling, damaged seals, or wrong orientation.

Dry hit

Harsh burnt taste when the coil isn’t wet enough. Prime new coils and don’t chain-puff empty pods.

Chain vaping

Many puffs in a short time. Can overheat coils and empty liquid channels faster — pause to let wick re-saturate.

Charging safety

Use the cable/charger recommended for the device, avoid soft surfaces that trap heat, and don’t leave charging unattended overnight.
