Evidence-based honesty matters. Here's where vaping carries real risk:
- Non-smokers: If you don't smoke, don't vape. Nicotine is addictive, and the long-term effects of inhaling PG/VG and flavorings are unknown.
- Pregnant women: Nicotine restricts fetal blood flow. Vaping eliminates combustion risks but not nicotine risks. Consult your doctor.
- Adolescents: Nicotine affects adolescent brain development, particularly attention, memory, and impulse control. The CDC's NYTS data shows youth vaping has declined significantly since 2019, but risks remain for any youth who do use.
- People with respiratory conditions: PG and certain flavoring compounds can trigger bronchial irritation in sensitive individuals.
- Dual users: People who both smoke and vape have worse health outcomes than exclusive vapers or exclusive smokers who quit. Dual use does not deliver the harm reduction of complete switching.
