JUUL2 received its FDA marketing granted order (MGO) in 2024. This is a big deal — it means the FDA reviewed the product's PMTA application and determined that it's "appropriate for the protection of the public health."
What FDA authorization means:
- The product can be legally sold and marketed in the US
- The manufacturer has provided extensive data on product chemistry, toxicology, and health effects
- The FDA has determined the product is likely to help adult smokers switch away from combustible cigarettes
- Only the specific products reviewed are authorized — not the entire brand
What FDA authorization does NOT mean:
- It's NOT "FDA approved" in the drug/medical device sense — it's authorized as a tobacco product
- It's NOT proven safe or harmless — all nicotine products have risks
- It's NOT approved as a quit-smoking aid or cessation device
- It doesn't mean kids can't use it — it's still 21+ only
