Florida has been tightening its oversight of tobacco and nicotine products, including disposable vapes. The most recent updates focus on three areas: product registration, manufacturing standards, and age verification.
- Product registration: Before a disposable vape can be sold in Florida, the manufacturer must register it with the state's Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). This applies to all nicotine products, including disposables.
- Manufacturing standards: Products must meet specific requirements for child-resistant packaging, labeling (including health warnings), and ingredient disclosure. These rules are designed to reduce risks, especially for accidental ingestion by kids.
- Age verification: Retailers must verify that every buyer is 21 or older, both in-store and online. For online sales, this means using a third-party age-verification service that checks government-issued IDs.
These changes aren't a complete overhaul, but they add layers of accountability. For consumers, the practical effect is that you have a way to check if a product is legit before you buy it.
