When you get a new report, run this quick pass before you trust it.
- Flip to the methodology section. If you can't find it in two minutes, stop.
- Scan the citations. Are the sources named and verifiable?
- Check the publication date. Is it current enough for your use?
- Read the definitions. What exactly is counted, and does it match your market?
- Look for separation of data and forecasts. Can you see where hard numbers end and projections begin?
- Ask yourself: who published this, and do they have a stake?
If it passes those six checks, it's probably okay. If it fails more than two, you're better off spending your time elsewhere.

As always, keep your compliance hat on. A good report is a tool, not a crystal ball.
