Spitting (or "spitback") is when hot e-liquid pops off the coil and into your mouth. It's unpleasant, it burns, and it's almost always fixable. Here are the causes and solutions.
Cause 1: Flooded coil. Too much juice in the coil chamber causes popping. The excess juice boils instead of vaporizing. Solution: remove the pod, wrap a paper towel around the airflow, and blow through the mouthpiece. This clears the excess juice.
Cause 2: Wattage too low. If the wattage is too low, the juice boils instead of vaporizing. The boiling juice pops and spits. Solution: increase the wattage by 2-3W. The vape should be a smooth hiss, not a crackling pop.
Cause 3: Thin juice in a high-wattage tank. 50/50 juice in a 60W tank is too thin. It floods the coil instantly. Solution: use 70/30 or higher VG in sub-ohm tanks.
Cause 4: Over-priming. If you put too much juice directly on the coil when priming, it floods from the start. Solution: 3-4 drops is enough. Let the tank do the rest of the priming.
A little crackling is normal. That's the sound of juice vaporizing. Spitting is when actual droplets hit your tongue. If you hear crackling but don't feel anything, your vape is working perfectly.
