The researchers used multiple experimental models to investigate vaping's effects at different levels of biological complexity:
🧪 Experimental Models Used
What they measured: Barrier function, cell death, autophagy (cellular cleanup), cell growth/repair, gene expression changes, immune response, and viral infection susceptibility.
The researchers exposed cells and tissue to e-cigarette vapor alone, and separately tested vapor exposure followed by respiratory virus infection. The hamsters received 5 days of vapor exposure, then were monitored for 10 additional days.
